It's soaring glass- and terra cotta-clad supertall tower adjacent to Grand Central Terminal. Tvitec supplied more than 50.000 meters of Isolar insulated glass. As project architect KPF describes, the 77-story addition to the Manhattan skyline that, at just over 427 m. tall, stands as the second tallest office tower in the entire city. Tvitec also fabricated amazing oversized glass for the lobby up to 7 meters. The developer was SL Green. One Vanderbilt is being touted as one of the most ecologically sensitive skyscrapers in New York, including high-performance glazing that helps to minimize heating and cooling needs.

Six global footprints of Tvitec’s triple glazing...

Six global examples of triple glazing for Net Zero buildings | Suscribe you to Tvitec Newsletter Reducing carbon emissions through the construction of Net Zero Energy Buildings (NZEB) is a global objective. Tvitec triple glazing is the high-performance glass industry's major contribution to this environmental goal. The six architectural projects we’re going to look at below are examples of this trend from around the world. The use of triple glazing is crucial for perfect insulation and energy saving in single building construction.

1. MacKimmie Tower. Canada’s largest Net Zero Carbon building

This tower sits at the centre of the University of Calgary's library complex. Its design, by the Dialog Architects studio, has rendered the building 85% more energy efficient than the original. As a result, it is the first in Canada to receive Zero Carbon Building certification. Tvitec supplied over 5,000 metres of triple glazing for its client Ferguson Corporation. The units were tempered and heat-strengthened for maximum safety and security and incorporate Guardian Climaguard high-performance coatings. It also stands out for the unique shapes of its façades. Tvitec continues to manufacture triple glazing insulation for the ongoing expansion of this superproject.

2.Ecavenir. Switzerland leads the way in the use of triple glazing

Because of both their climatic conditions and environmental awareness, many projects in Switzerland rely heavily on triple glazing to complete buildings such as the ECA Lausanne headquarters. The offices of the Vaud canton fire insurance consortium include geothermal heating, breathable façades, and solar panels on the roof. Over 3,500 metres of Tvitec triple glazing clad this space designed by Architram Architecture et Urbanisme. Sottas was in charge of installing the façade, where the tempered and laminated glass combine Low Iron and AGC's IPlus Top 1.1 solar control layer. Natural light, solar absorption and high insulation.

 4. One Post Office Square. Boston's game-changing office tower

With its refurbishment now near completion, the One Post Office is already attracting attention in Boston for its elegant aesthetics and its eco-efficient and sustainable design. Tvitec manufactured nearly 30,000 metres of architectural glass for the façade specialists Benson. Most of it was triple glazed, tempered and heat-strengthened, and coated with Guardian HP Neutral and HP Silver 43/31 coatings. Tvitec also incorporated screen printing into much of the project. The floor-to-ceiling glass, following the design of the Gensler architecture studio, is attracting major firms who, because of its comfort and energy efficiency, want to establish their workplaces in this centrally located skyscraper, which will boast the highest LEED environmental certification available.

 4. Infinity. Integral insulation in the Grand Duchy

Tvitec supplied a large volume of triple glazed units for the Infinity complex office centre, located in the centre of Luxembourg. Tempered and laminated glass units that also feature acoustic Pvb. In addition to the thermal insulation of triple glazing, the building project is set with maximum security and almost complete noise mitigation. Tvitec supplied its top-grade insulating glass for the Italian façade specialist AZA, with part of the building project completed by the firm Kyotec. Infinity’s design is the work of the Arquitectonica + M3 Architects studio. The use of quality materials, systems and highly sustainable networks have earned this residential, commercial and office complex a BREEAM Excellent rating.

 5. Grand Morillon. Kengo Kuma’s complete student residence

In Geneva, Kengo Kuma has designed a student residence that’s state-of-the-art in every sense of the word. The prestigious Graduate Institute opted for a concept that is simple in design but complex in execution. A metal façade with large shutters surrounds the 700 rooms and multitude of communal spaces of the residence. Tvitec's triple glazing for the façade specialist Sottas allows maximum natural light to enter the building and full indoor climate control, especially in winter. Tvitec supplied around a thousand metres of glass for the project. Half of this was triple-glazed, tempered and laminated with a unique solar control coating from Glastroesch – Combi Neutral 61/32 with Low Iron. Laminates were also produced for large areas of balustrades.

 6. Haren Prison. Bullet-proof glass replacing bars and maximum eco-efficiency

Haren prison in Belgium will soon be welcoming its first inmates, who'll get to experience an alternative prison concept. Glass replaces bars on the outside of the cells. But it’s not just any glass – it’s BR6-certified tempered and laminated glass, resistant to repeated and close-range impacts from assault rifles. Tvitec's bullet-proof glass is incorporated into the triple glazing supplied for Spanish façade specialists Proinller and Ferga, who have been working for the construction company FCC. Tvitec manufactured almost 4,000 metres of these insulating glass units with truly impressive thickness. The sustainable glass is coupled with systems such as geothermal storage that will cool or heat the entire prison complex.

Better with triple glazing

Triple glazing offers numerous advantages, the most significant one being – not surprisingly – its outstanding thermal performance. In some regions, it may be worthwhile to install triple glazing in order to reduce heat loss and increase the temperature of the inside panes. In general, triple-glazed windows improve comfort, reduce condensation and minimize noise. Its temperature coefficient of resistance (R-value) is indeed much higher than double glazing. This explains in part why triple-glazed products can be up to 50% more efficient than double-glazed. Triple glazing is also very heavy, which requires strong window profiles, specially designed to support the weight. If not, the lifespan of the window could be reduced. 1. Can reduce heat loss in your house which can lower your energy bills. 2. More efficient at heat retention than double glazing, making your space feel warmer. 3. Less prone to condensation build-up between the panes than double glazing. 4.  It is harder to break, making your building more secure. 5. The extra pane of glass blocks out more noise from outside than double glazing.

Architectural Glass by Tvitec Rocalux® wins the I...

New architectural glass that transforms into any natural building surface fascinates the jury of the XV Castilla y León Económica Awards. Relentless innovation in the field of sustainable glass by Spain's largest high-performance glass manufacturer, Tvitec Glass, has been awarded. By Tvitec Rocalux ®, the range of architectural glass that transforms into any natural surface for construction, has won the Innovative Product of the Year Award organised annually by the Castilla y León Económica group. In the fifteenth edition of these prestigious awards, which recognise the best entrepreneurs and companies in the largest region of Spain (Castilla and León), the jury was fascinated by the work presented by Tvitec and the huge potential it offers for construction. The official award announcement justifies the recognition of this innovative glazing material: "The company Tvitec System Glass has developed Tvitec Rocalux ®, an innovative textured architectural glass surface that is capable of sustainably reproducing any type of building material. The innovation and digital technology implemented by the company, headed by Javier Prado Ovalle, makes it possible to eliminate the inherent light reflection of glass to give it an optimal matt appearance for opaque enclosures, among other applications".   Through digital printing and by means of an inkjet system and other sophisticated transformation processes, Tvitec Rocalux can faithfully reproduce any natural construction material finish, especially that of stone and all its derivatives. This minimises the environmental impact generated by the extraction of these resources, while at the same time giving it the advantage of being incorporated into eco-efficient double and triple glazing. The Rocalux by Tvitec range can be manufactured in both flat and curved pieces and in large sizes of up to 12 metres. New architectural glass, Tvitec's Rocalux range is already enjoying significant success in the development of both building façades and interior design, imitating any type of marble, natural stone, quartzite, slate, wood or other finishes. However, the innovative product award will provide an important boost, as Tvitec's Communications Director Roberto Arias notes, for the launch of a 60 million euros investment in a new plant with a surface area of over 100,000 metres. This factory will be responsible for the mass production of the different Tvitec Rocalux models needed for the national and international markets. Tvitec Rocalux can imitate the appearance of natural stone, marble, quartzite, and slate, but also wood and terracotta and a range of other building materials – both for exterior and interior design. The spectacular glass combinations for large proje...

Tvitec architectural glass strikes the ideal combination for a wide range of high-performance materials that perfectly form the most iconic and sustainable façades across globally positioned projects, like the ones we are going tell you more about below. Discover more about how Tvitec’s glass solutions fit magnificently with other materials and claddings for projects headed by renowned international architects, such as One Vanderbilt, Castellana 77, Lyon Part Dieu or La Seine Musicale, to name just a few.

Castellana 77. Glass & Efte slats and LED for Luis Vidal + Arquitectos

Tvitec's insulating and sustainable glass plays an essential role in the combination façade designed by Luis Vidal Arquitectos to bring Castellana 77 back to its iconic role in the landscape of Madrid’s AZCA neighbourhood. The restoration of the building, promoted by GMP, is a perfect example of commitment to sustainable architecture in modern office buildings. Castellana 77 with Tvitec Glass Tvitec produced double glazing solutions for some façade units, installed by the Ferga façade company, as part of which some unique Efte slats take centre stage, running through the design in the form of a wave effect, complete with an incredible LED lighting system. Tvitec's eco-efficient glass not only contributes to the exceptional aesthetics of this tower, but also to improve the comfort and wellbeing of the people who use it. The interior takes full advantage of natural light, which results in significant enhancement of wellbeing for users of the space.

La Seine Musicale. Glass, beech wood and solar panels for Shigeru Ban

Tvitec supplied the glass for the egg-shaped curtain wall that gives La Seine Musicale an undeniably special look. The Parisian cultural complex designed by the prestigious architect Shigeru Ban alongside Jean de Gastines features auditoriums, exhibition halls, recording studios and a space dedicated to leisure and restaurants. The auditorium's hexagonal structure features Tvitec double glazed sustainable glass with different layers of Guardian SNX 50/23 solar control coatings. The high-performance glass is fitted into laminated wood hexagons made of spruce and beech wood. In addition, the enclosure features a kind of sail formed of solar panels. Tvitec manufactured almost 20,000 m of glass for the Bouygues and Acieroid constructors. A significant portion of the glazed panels are large in nature.

98 Front Street. Glass & concrete cubes for ODA Architecture in Brooklyn

Tvitec manufactured the architectural glass that has sparked a sensation in the 98 Front project designed by ODA Architects, standing out among new developments in New York’s Brooklyn borough. For this project, Tvitec double glazed units with a Guardian 50/32 solar coating that promotes eco-efficiency is combined with concrete to create a combination of cubic volumes fitted irregularly on this unique façade. High-performance concrete and glass create a spectacular architectural partnership that defines this studio and apartment complex with large floor-to-ceiling windows and white oak floors throughout the inside. The double glazed units used also incorporated Tvitec safety laminates that add greater acoustic comfort to the space. More than 3,000 square metres made for Alumil window manufacturers.

One Vanderbilt. Glass combined with terracotta modules for KPF Architects

Tvitec's high-performance glass blends with stunning terracotta throughout the 427-metre-high One Vanderbilt in New York. The tallest office skyscraper in Midtown Manhattan was designed by KPF Architects. The terracotta used in the structure evokes the same materials used in the construction of the nearby Grand Central Station, and is integrated into Tvitec double glazing units, installed in a floor-to-ceiling design by façade company Permasteelisa. The project covers a total of nearly 50,000 metres of insulating, tempered and laminated glass units featuring Guardian 50/32 solar control coatings, which provide maximum brightness and energy savings, while also boasting LEED and WELL environmental certifications. Tvitec also manufactured the oversized glass for One Vanderbilt's majestic lobby.

Lyon Part Dieu. Glass featuring white precast decorations for MVRDV

With the ultimate goal of transforming Europe’s commercial centre, Lyon Part Dieu, located in the French city of the same name, façade designers Coveris and Face InTec opted for a combination of high-performance architectural glass of the quality guaranteed by Tvitec and decorative precast concrete. The design, seeking to interrupt and modernise Lyon Part Dieu’s façade, was the work of the leading European studio MVRDV in association with SUD Architectes. Tvitec insulating glass, in many cases featuring laminated safety glazing, forms a first layer on top of which a curtain wall of evaporated white architectural concrete panels is superimposed. This new project has been an outstanding success for both the management team of the Unibail Rodanco shopping centre and contractor Leon Grosse. Tvitec manufactured more than 4,000 metres of high-quality glass for this construction. Lyon Part Dieu has a surface area of 166,000 square metres.
