ONE VANDERBILT. NEW YORK

It's soaring glass- and terra cotta-clad supertall tower adjacent to Grand Central Terminal. Tvitec supplied more than 50.000 meters of Isolar insulated glass. As project architect KPF describes, the 77-story addition to the Manhattan skyline that, at just over 427 m. tall, stands as the second tallest office tower in the entire city. Tvitec also fabricated amazing oversized glass for the lobby up to 7 meters. The developer was SL Green. One Vanderbilt is being touted as one of the most ecologically sensitive skyscrapers in New York, including high-performance glazing that helps to minimize heating and cooling needs.

Tvitec mega windows for mega Zara

This is the size and weight of the mega windows of the world's largest Zara flagship store

The largest Zara store in the world will be located in the heart of Madrid. And it’s likely one of their most sophisticated buildings in terms of construction, aesthetics and what it offers in all areas too. Within this spectacular setting, the glass pieces that will cover the store at Gran Vía 84, in the emblematic Plaza de España, are set to be showstoppers, truly unique in the field of architectural materials.   [caption id="attachment_13188" align="alignnone" width="1552"] Tvitec mega windows for mega Zara in Madrid[/caption] Each of the almost 30 panes that glaze the ground floor of the Edificio España – which was the tallest skyscraper in Europe when it opened in 1953 – is about 6.5 metres high and 3 metres wide. In Europe, processing glass of these dimensions with the conditions of safety, transparency and acoustic insulation required for the Inditex group's project is only feasible with a select club of glass manufacturers. Spain's Tvitec, thanks to its modern technology, is one of those chosen few. Its plant in Cubillos del Sil (León) has manufactured all laminated safety glass units to be installed in the international brand's new flagship store, which presid Marta Ortega from 1 April. Each unit is made up of three 12 mm thick panes of glass, with special colourless layers inserted between to both shield them and ensure the glass remains upright and attached to the PBV in the event of breakage, maximising safety. For maximum transparency between the interior and exterior of the building, Low-iron is being used – a special type of glass with a low iron content – which accentuates the beauty of the glazing thanks to its purity and luminosity, in addition to being safe and commercially viable.  The dimensions of the laminated glass units are not their only exceptional feature. Each weighs nearly two tonnes – 1,850 kilograms – and the laminates between the panes will provide remarkable noise insulation, ensuring complete comfort for customers inside the store’s more than 7,700 metres of floor space spread across four floors.

Sustainable glass

Tvitec is immensely proud that its high-performance glass products end up forming part of the stores, corporate headquarters and research centres that many of the world's most prestigious companies are building not only in Spain, but across Europe and North America too. And that they continue to be chosen by construction companies, architectural studios and façade installation specialists to help them obtain the principal environmental and sustainability certifications in construction, namely LEED, BREEAM and Well

High-tech high security glass

Six great reasons to choose high-tech laminated gl...

Six magnificent reasons to choose high-tech safety glass

Tvitec technical director Javier Reguera and his team oversee dozens of unique construction projects involving safety glass every year. In this newsletter, using that knowledge, we’re going to look at the key reasons architectural studios and façade engineering firms should opt for the most advanced technology in laminated glass processing for structures and designs where quality is paramount. From shopping centres and banks to offices, public buildings and airports, Tvitec’s unique technology makes it possible to create spaces that are as beautiful as they are safe.

1. For post-breakage safety

If any of the glass panes forming the laminated structure break, its fragments will remain fixed to the interlayer, keeping the structure upright. This provides greater safety for people and keeps the space closed until it's replaced.

2. For additional protection against theft and vandalism

It delays the likelihood of intruders entering through the glass and resultantly deters the assailant. Conversely, it also prevents exit from the inside. This is the case in Tvitec's new maximum-security prison in Haren, Belgium, where the bars have been replaced with glass that can resist assault rifle impacts. Laminated glass

3. Because it retains transparency and brightness

Using laminated safety glass doesn’t impair the glazing’s transparency. It's possible to ensure a high level of natural light continues to enter the building by using Low-iron or similar compositions.

4. For noise reduction and UV filtering

Laminated glass, in combination with specific PVBs, allows noise reduction of up to 30% in spaces requiring such insulation. UV filtering can also be reduced by up to 99%.

5. For its versatility in application

Laminated glass is perfect for windows and doors when protection against forced entry is required. This is alongside building façades, structurally demanding systems, bulletproof or explosion-proof armouring, swimming pools, railings, canopies, skylights, floors and staircases.

6. For design and aesthetics

Laminated glass with coloured interlayers (Vanceva) can lend personality and visual appeal to a whole host of projects. It can also be combined with conventional or digital screen-printing patterns to further accentuate its uniqueness.

The large glass that covers the €1 billion R&D c...

Tvitec's large-scale solutions light up AstraZeneca's Discovery Centre by Herzog & de Meuron

Tvitec oversized glass for AstraZeneca Discovery Center They say little has been spared in the construction of AstraZeneca's new Discovery Centre in Cambridge (UK). It will be one of the three largest research centres of the Anglo-Swedish pharmaceutical company. Its grand opening was presided over by Prince Charles, accompanied by AstraZeneca's executive director, Pascal Soriot, and its president, Leif Johansson. The Swiss architects Herzog & De Meuron have come up with a breath-taking design.

Tvitec oversized glass

Of course, this is in line with the £1.1 billion total investment. The building is covered with a gigantic glass structure, with eye-catching saw teeth of almost 7 meters each covering the 16 laboratories in which more than 2,200 scientists will work. But where have these spectacular pieces of glazing been manufactured so that the aesthetic results also benefit from the insulation, energy-saving, and safety sought by its backers? The answer, of course, is one of the world's leading specialists in large-scale jumbo glass manufacturing: Tvitec. Tvitec manufactured each and every one of the nearly 300 triple glazing laminate units surrounding the Discovery Centre, the UK's largest scientific laboratory.

Tvitec triple glazing for a great ecoefficiency

The triple glazing, which includes smart solar control layers of AGC Ipasol Shine and Iplus Top, along with Guardian extraclear, allows natural light to bathe the entire building organically.  It's part of the eco-efficiency and sustainability concept of a project in which heat is collected from the ground and its toilets are flushed with rainwater. Tvitec's technology for processing insulating glass was combined with the expertise of its professionals to achieve maximum precision in the triangular shapes of many of the zig-zag pieces designed by Herzog & de Meuron. The main body of the AstraZeneca campus sits on six rectangular glass boxes grouped into three pairs. The result is an open courtyard formation, which references the historic universities of Cambridge and provides a central campus meeting point. Yet Tvitec's production goes far beyond jumbo glass units. In the Cubillos factory, more than 20,000 meters of high-performance glass was manufactured for façade specialists Scheldebouw. We're talking about almost 5,000 pieces of glass from the 'Made in Spain' Tvitec brand.
